'Under God', thank you very much and don't forget it.... :-) Visit here: http://americathebeautiful1776.blogspot.com/
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
Addendum:
Francis Bellamy (1855 - 1931), a Baptist minister, wrote the original Pledge in August 1892. In 1954, Congress after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus, added the words, 'under God,' to the Pledge. The Pledge was now both a patriotic oath and a public prayer.
I stand corrected. :-)
Congratulation to your new blog - you´r so creativ (it looks very beautiful - love that colours and design).....where to you get all your inspiration?!!!
ReplyDeleteWish you a wonderful day, Hugs Jade
Those two wonderful words, "under God", were not officially incorporated into the pledge until 1954, although they had been in popular use since 1948. So, your historic pledge card is accurate for the period. I agree, the pledge is empty without them.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and am looking forward to your new one, too.
