The Greatest Gift ~

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet. 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”

For more on the account of the greatest story ever told you can read:
 Matthew 2:1-12; Luke 1:26-38; Luke 2:1-20
Some of my favorite verses are held in these passages.
Here is one where the Wisemen are on their journey looking for the King of Kings.
"9 When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. 11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh." Matt. 2:9-11
My heart leaps a little when I read:  "..When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy."
Matt. 2:10. It may seem like a small simple act. But think of the joy the Wisemen felt after traveling a very long distance looking for this baby that had come to save all human kind from their selfish ways.
That baby grew up to be one of the most noted and recognized people in the history of mankind, His name is Jesus.
I am joyful today because He came.

  1. I have a gigantic chalk board in my basement that I had written a couple of those verses on. Such a great reminder of what the season is all about every time I walk downstairs. I love it!

Take care, and I adore all my robin's egg blue presents! (It did kill me to buy the paper though, when Christmas wrap is $1.50 for 60 feet and I was buying 12 feet for $3.99!I am going to have to plan better for next year, I do love them!!!)
