Singed Chiffon Flower Tutorial ~Updated

Before I show you 'how to', use caution when using your candle

A heat gun might be a better tool for this project.

Please be careful when attempting to make these flowers.

A tutorial not intended for children under 20.

You've seen these tutorials on different sites. They are all over the web.

A couple of you asked me to 'show' how I make mine.  I prefer to use
a candle as I do not have a heat gun.

Here is what I use to make flowers:

~ Thread and needle

~ Pattern of a make shift flower about 4" on diameter. Or just cut random circles
approximately 2" to 3"  in diameter depending on how big you want your flower.

~ 1/4 yard of pink, cream, or color of your choice chiffon fabric.

~ scissors

~ small stringing beads, pearls, or tiny brass honey bees or ladybugs.

~ candle or heat gun

~ long tweezers (to hold petals over flame)

Layer your chiffon to cut out 4 petals or flower pieces at a time. You can
also just cut makeshift round pieces of chiffon, not just the 4 petal pattern I showed you. They don't have to be perfect.

Don't be fussy about cutting perfect petals because the petals will be

singed and some shrinking will occur and all the rough edges will 'curl'.

Cut a few smaller petals. Your flower can be 5 to 8 petals depending on

how full you want your finished flower to be. Tulle or lace can be used also to layer.

Light your candle, hold a petal over the flame, gently lower it just above

the flame, don't let the flame touch it. You will have to 'practice' getting

the desired 'curling' you want when you hold it over the heat. Use your tweezers to

hold the petal. You'll save your fingers from feeling the intense heat. Go back and forth a little
to achieve a desired 'petal'. Be careful not to scorch the petals.

Now arrange your petals one on top of the other, staggering them so

petals stick out just a little. Experiment, practice with your pieces before

using your needle and thread. Use as many or as few petals as you want, pin the center.

After you have positioned your petals to how you want them, knot your thread and run

the needle through the center. Pinch the center just a little and run the needle through

a couple more times, use several beads or as I used a honey bee and sew them through the center

several times to secure.

Embellish with green chiffon petals, green silk leaves, sew a pin clasp

on the back for a flower brooch, sew a couple on a tee shirt.

The possibilities are endless.

Wash-n-wear too! Don't dry in dryer. Just fluff on air in your dryer.
