Arlington Cemetary...

Give credit where credit is due.

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington,Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

When I lived in Wisconsin, I use to visit cemetaries, in the daylight!  Don't have any deep dark secrets or hang-ups that I know of. :-) Yes, I visited cemetaries and would search particularly for old headstones. In our home city of Fond du Lac (French for: foot of the lake) WI., at Rienze Cemetary, I spotted five headstones with the names of French girls, like Sophie and the others I cannot remember, I only remember their last name was French. I looked to see the dates and ages. These little toddlers were just a year old. Sometime in the late 1800's is when those precious little girls passed on. Of what, I don't know. So you see cemetaries have an amazing history and a past that speaks, with dates and names, many you will recognize what nationality (a whole other subject). I have visited cemetaries where my great great grandparents are buried. I visited 3 cemetaries when I went home in July 2009, where many of my ancestors are laid to rest. Years ago I visited Picket Station, WI. (the cemetary there).

My paternal great great grandparents are buried there.

The little story above about Arlington Cemetary speaks of Christmas present. Veterans and Military heros lay to rest here from Christmas past. Don't be somber, our Veterans and heros are at rest after a job done well in their military lives. Thanks, Mr. Worcester, for your thoughtful donation to Arlington Cemetary.
