Noah's Ark ~ A Work of Art

Have you ever wondered how in the world did Noah build such a massive floating vessel? He did it with simple tools and dedication. For Noah to build the ark it may have taken up to 100 years. Read on who built this replica and with what.

Even if you're not a religious person, you can't look at these pictures and not be in awe of how this man built this amazing floating structure today, using modern tools and his own hands, and then think on Noah and how he did it thousands of years ago using no electricity, and primitive hand tools. Now, that's dedication.

Working Replica of Noah's Ark Opened In SCHAGEN, Netherlands . Man Builds Noah's Ark to the exact scale given in the Bible. The massive central door in the side of Noah's Ark was opened to the first crowd of curious townsfolk to behold the wonder. This replica of the biblical Ark was built by Dutch Creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the literal truth of the Bible.

The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That's two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house. Life-sized models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold.

A contractor by trade, Huibers built the ark of cedar and pine. Biblical Scholars debate exactly what the wood used by Noah would have been.

Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in May 2005. On the uncovered top deck - not quite ready in time for the opening - will come a petting zoo, with baby lambs and chickens, and goats, and one camel.

'I knew the story of Noah, but I had no idea the boat would have been so big ' There is enough space near the keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells the story of Noah and his ark. Huibers, a Christian man, said he hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands, where church going has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years.

Now that I am old and Gray...give me the time to tell This new generation (and their children too) About all your mighty miracles. Psalm 71:18

"The only way to fail is to stop."

St. Teresa of Avila

What a work of art!

  1. I have seen articles about this boat and I am in awe of the work and dedication of both men, that from the Bible and the modern day man. Wow what an endeavor to undertake. One can see why it took Noah so long. Great post! Thank you for sharing.

  2. I love this and what a neat way to share the simple faith that Noah had in the task he was asked to undertake. When we see how well all of the animals fit in the ark, it really drives home the point that this was a real task and not a fairy tale. Sea Witch

  4. What an amazing feat to share with the world! It amazes me that Noah not only built it, but filled it with animals AND it still floated.

Hope to meet you on Friday.

  5. Oh My Linda K,
I can hardly believe how large this boat is. I would so love to be one of the precious ones, who could step aboard. Can you imagine what it would feel like to know that it is a replica of the actual arc and all the animals inside?
Thank you for sharing this today.

I so look forward to meeting you on Friday at the AZ blogger luncheon. See ya there.
