Little Sleepy Village

The sleepy little village of White Lake, WI. The last 4 photos are from the early 1900's. What was once a logging community ninety years ago, this little village has been home to many of my relatives for years. What was once Yawkey Bissell lumber is now Robbins Sports Surfaces. After my dad retired from the Navy in 1967, we had already been living in the little unincorporated town of Langlade, WI., which is about 5 miles to White Lake. Dad was offered a position in the 70's at the mill, what is now Robbins. He worked in payroll until moving out to manage a small fleet of trucks for the company. He has been retired now for maybe 16 years and still works part time in the flooring store there. The vintage photos are from the White Lake calendar put out by the historical society. The little building sitting near the pines is the White Lake Depot. The Soo Line use to run through White Lake many years ago. The historical society has kept up the depot and eventually moved it a couple of blocks away. This little village has the biggest July 4th parades ever!
